Newcastle Central and East Methodist Circuit

Projects

The Circuit has a number of projects some of which are funded by the Circuit and other funding bodies, including the Methodist Connexion.

Shieldfield Art Works is an arts organisation, based in Shieldfield, which brings together contemporary art, theology and community activity.

The Presence Project is based in the Pottery Bank Community Centre, Walker. Working with other churches, and particularly with Mission Initiative Newcastle East (MINE), Presence seeks to create experiences of ‘church’ which are relevant and user friendly for the wider community. The project provides spiritual and emotional support by praying with and for people; providing a peaceful, safe space where people can simply have some 'time out', pray, talk and be listened to; and building relationships with individuals and community groups. Hand in Hand is a project for people aged 65 and over and was established in January 2000. Through friendship and compassion the project seeks to provide support to elderly people, especially those who are socially isolated or at risk of social isolation, to help prevent feelings of loneliness and isolation.

The Youth and Community Centre (Balliol), with a full-time Youth Worker and staff, serves the youth and community in Longbenton.

The Hot Chocolate Project is based in Battle Hill and serves young people aged 7-13.
