The Circuits of Newcastle have a long and distinguished pedigree.
Newcastle was one of the first seven circuits formed by John Wesley in the mid-eighteenth century.
What is now the Newcastle Central and East Circuit is the latest of many incarnations over 250 years. Brunswick has at times been a circuit on its own. There was the Mission Circuit. There have been Circuits to cover the city centre, the east of the city and the west of the city. The divisions of Methodism in the early nineteenth century had some effect, as have the fluctuations in numbers both of churches and of members.
